Born and raised in Japan, DJ 19 has become one of the pioneers in the Japanese club music scene and is making his way into international stardom by performing in the rest of Asia and abroad. The epitome of a true music enthusiast, DJ 19 multi-tasks not only as a DJ and producer, but is also a label manager, a journalist, an event organizer, and an art director.

As a producer, he is known as Trancentral Station with several acclaimed releases under his own record label, 19Box Recordings and other respected international labels.

DJ 19 is also a member of Ambrozia, a down tempo outfit featured in Real Ibiza and Cafe IBIZA. As a DJ, he has released over 20 mixed CD compilations, including a Bedrock compilation for Japan, and was a resident DJ of "the ocean" , a monthly legendary party at Liquid Room in Tokyo.

His deep knowledge and high standards for music is well-acknowledged in the Japanese music industry, with his articles and music reviews appearing in magazines on a weekly and monthly basis. His devotion and willingness to explore past genre borders is apparent from his constant releases of chillout compilations by several major labels. And last but not least, he operates another faculty under the PARK moniker, where he organizes events, designs T-shirts, and owns a non-promotion label, exclusive to DJs, called PARK LIMITED MUZIK. The origin for the name DJ 19, arises from his all time favorite producer Paul Hardcastle's song title, "19".

日本で生まれ育ったDJ19は、日本におけるクラブミュージックシーンのパイオニアであり、アジアや海外でのパフォーマンスが彼をスターダムにした。その活動は、DJのみならず、レーベルマネージャー、ジャーナリスト、イベントオーガナイザー、アートディレクターと幅広い。

プロデューサーとしては、Trancentral Stationとして、知られているように、彼自身のレーベルである19Box Recordingsや他のリスペクトされているインターナショナルなレーベルからもリリースしている。

DJ19は、Ambroziaのメンバーでもあり、Real IbizaやCafe IBIZAでもフィーチャーされている。DJとしては、Bedrock のコンピレーションを含む20以上のミックスCDのコンピレーションをリリースしていて、 "the ocean"のレジデントDJを始め、東京のLiquid Roomでマンスリーのレジデントもつとめている。

彼の深い知識や高水準での音楽には、それを知る日本の音楽産業において、月刊誌、週刊誌を問わず、彼の記事は、連載されている。そして、今後もコンスタントに多方面へ向けて、彼は発信していき、それは、サウンドのみならず、イベントオーガナイザーとして、Tシャツのデザイナーとして、ノンプロモーションレーベルのオーナーとして、PARK LIMITED MUZIKのDJとして活動していく。DJ19の由来は、彼の大好きなプロデューサーPaul Hardcastleの曲名"19"に由来している。

1/First I hope to introduce myself.
まずは自己紹介を。

I founded '19BOX'(pronounced jukebox)in 1999, 'PARK LIMITED MUZIK' in 2004, and '19BOX LIMITED' in 2005.
My basic stance is to begin new projects starting from Japan. We've been providing club people with "Quality House", I always hope to find new talent.
PARK LIMITED MUZIK is a tentative label with more technical sound. 19BOX LIMITED produces exclusive tracks, just like the name.
The style as DJ 19 could be represented as 'PHUTURE FUNK'

1999年から19BOX（JUKEBOXと発音）を立ち上げ、その後2004年からPARK LIMITED MUZIK、2005年から19BOX LIMITEDを運営しているんだ。
基本は日本からの発信だけど、サウンド的にははクオリティ・ハウスを標榜し，常に新しい才能をピックアップしていきたいと思っているよ。
PARK LIMITED MUZIKは、もう少しテッキーでDJライクな作品を出す実験的なレーベルで、19BOX LIMITEDはその名の通り限定盤を出すレーベル。
DJ 19としてのスタイルは“PHUTURE FUNK”という風に表現しているんだ。

2/Project most recently remained in memories?
最近一番記憶に残っているプロジェクトは？

I'm working as not only DJ 19 but also AMBROZIA, TRANCENTRAL STATION, and VALID EVIDENCE. My recent favorite project is JAFROSAX, which couples KAZUKI KATSUTA's saxophone with great vocalists and the sounds of house, drum'n'bass, chillout and broken beats. I'm working on the 3rd album right now and producing the tune 'BLOW UR MIND' with Noel Sanger.

And, AMBROZIA's 2nd album 'real 4 life' is going into the market on November 8th in Japan.

DJ 19名義以外にも、AMBROZIAやTRANCENTRAL STATION、VALID EVIDENCEといった別プロジェクトもやってますけど、最近では、日本の激ウマSAXプレイヤー、KAZUKI KATSUTAさんのプロジェクト＝JAFROSAXが面白いですね。素晴らしいヴォーカリスト達と一緒で、サウンド的には、ハウス、ドラムンベース、チルアウトやブレイクビーツだね。今、3rdアルバムを制作中なんですが、そこでも、NOEL SANGERと一緒に「BLOW UR MIND」という曲をプロデュースしています。

あと、11/8に日本ではAMBROZIAの2ndアルバム『real 4 life』が発売されます。

3/A gig most recently remained in memories?
最近一番記憶に残っているギグは？

Well, the recent one is the open-air dance festival in Kenting (Taiwan).
It was so gleeful everywhere in town, just like Winter Music Conference in Miami. I enjoyed playing filled with excitement on the first day in 3 day-events.

うーん、最近だと台湾のバリと呼ばれる墾丁（KENTING）で行われた野外ダンス・フェスティヴァルは面白かったですね。その時期、それこそマイマミのウインターミュージックコンファレンスみたいに街中が賑やだったんですよ。3日間あった中の1日目に出演したんですが，熱気が凄かったですね。

4/Original of the favor and recent tune or remix?
最近の曲で気に入ってるオリジナル／リミックスは？

Of course, Paul Hardcastle's "19".
And I was influenced by Trevor Horn's produced works and ZTT stuffs.
In case of current scene, I've been trying to pick up great remixers in our label. (laugh)

もちろんPAUL HARDCASTLEの「19」。
あと、TREVOR HORNのプロデュース作品、ならびにZTT RECORDSの音源にも影響されましたね。最近でお気に入りの人は、常にウチのレーベルでリミキサーとしてピッックアップしています（笑）。

5/How was this remix or original achieved?
そのリミックス／オリジナルはどうやって制作した？

After I made the general concept, I just go with it with impetus.
I usually start with rhythm.

だいたい、こういう曲に仕上げたいというコンセプトを決めて、あとは勢いで仕上げますね。
基本はリズムから手掛けていきます。

6/What do you think of the flow and the music download of digital in the future?
音楽のデジタル配信の流れと将来をどう思う？

It's an evolutional media.
I like packages, so I hope it to improve to be able to download with the artwork and the credit titles in the future.
And personally, it helps me to be free from 50 pound bag filled with records (laugh).

進化するメディアだと思いますね。
僕はパッケージが好きな人間なので、将来的にはアートワークやクレジットまで一緒にダウンロードできるようになるのが理想的かな。
あと、個人的には20kgもある重いレコードバッグを持ち歩かなくても良くなったんで助かってます（笑）。
